CHALLENGES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HR

CHALLENGES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HR
Dr.S.SUNDARARAJAN, Associate Professor-MBA, SIMS

Human Resource Professional are working on lucrative HR strategies, to avoid attrition of their key personnel. Sometimes it is difficult to adopt and learn different AI tools and techniques proficiently by creating a hurdle in achieving the desired goals. The corporate environment is full of uncertainty, complexity and unpredictable. Digital era has opened many new opportunities for Human resources with its limitations which the HR personnel should be aware of. HR personnel should be given periodical training to overcome the limitations. HR should monitor and control the Artificially Intelligent Human systems, as there are certain human traits, indications and language that can only be understood by a human being. Creativity, empathy, teamwork and the ability to work with AI systems can assure smooth working of the AI system.Top Common Challenges in AIComputing Power: The algorithms used by AI is very complicated and huge, the correctness of the algorithms depends upon the correct output, as the input is huge the developers shy away from creating programs for AI and the correctness of the AI depends upon the backend coding, hence very difficult to predict.Trust Deficit: The question arises on the output of AI, how can a single input coding give output under various circumstance and devise a solution for various problem, people are skeptical about the same hence the delay in embracing AI.Limited Knowledge: People in various walks of life are still not aware of the potential of AI, hence there is a limitation in using them.Human-level: Human beings are more accurate than AI, as the response from AI will be based on the inputs given to the machine.Data Privacy and Security. AI uses database to provide information and these data are prone to theft from security, this is one of the biggest challenges faced by AI.The Bias Problem: This problem may continue as whatever data is fed into the system a similar output is given and it is the human being who are going to feed data from various sources, hence bias cannot be eliminated completely.Data Scarcity: Many developing nations have started following a stringent IT rule to protect the data freely available to giants on the basis of which programs were generated. Hence these multinationals are using local database to create programs which might be flawed if applied globally.Human touch: 75% of candidates who have searched for a job in the past five years have told that they prefer human interaction through the process of the job hunt. Due to the interaction with AI taking on various conversations and due to the absence of human touch candidates may terminate the interview process prematurely. Due to the robotic conversations of AI candidate may feel that they are not fully capable of understanding human lingo and emotions and these factors may impact the candidate experience rather negatively. Reliability: Most of the AI-based tools are still in their early stages. As they are going through the initial data learning curve, the tool may have numerous inconsistencies and flaws. The data made available to these tools is not adequate many a time. They need a lot of data to recognize patterns and derive at conclusions.Unemployment: By AI technologies humans will lose their creativity and thinking power. Humans are always dependent on machines if the use of AI becomes widespread in society can lead to large scale unemployment in the society as an undesirable changes.Artificial intelligence, which has gradually entered all the functions of the company, has also captured services of human resource function. While some see it as degrading the HR function, HR professionals should take it as an opportunity to focus on missions that a machine can’t accomplish.

Cold Storage Efficiency- Tools for Optimised Efficiency and Cost Savings

Dr.D.Sathishkumar, Asst.Professor, SIMS

1. Ensure the safety of your workforce. Cold storage facilities need to follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration and state guidelines to ensure that workers take breaks and don’t work in the freezer for too long. On an average, freezer warehouses have higher labour turnover than normal warehouses.

2. Enable full EDI integration. Cold storage warehouses should encourage vendors to provide electronic data interchange (EDI) integration capabilities. As EDI helps receivers to record data via radio frequency device or paper. Not only are these methods difficult to record with gloves, but they also increase the risk of product getting out of its allowable temperature range.

3. Utilize appointment scheduling tools. An inbound and outbound appointment scheduling tool prevents product from sitting in staging locations for too long, which risks crowding in the staging areas as well as high product temperatures.

4. Understand the requirements. Nowadays, it is common for both customers and government regulators to have specific requirements surrounding shelf life, product dating, product mixing, labelling, tracking, and tracing to have a warehouse management system that can handle advanced configuration around these needs.

5. Implement high-speed, narrow doors. High-speed, insulated doors keep temperature energy costs to a minimum. Consider installing narrower doors to lift trucks to pass through the door at the same time. Having separate entrance and exit doors is another great way to save on energy costs.

6. Consider automation. Automation can reduce number of workers and time spent in the freezer. Some examples are Automated Storage (A/S) and Retrieval System (RS), a palletized, a pallet inverter, or robots that can bring product to ambient rooms for picking.

7. Maximize storage and storage density. The cost of operating a cold storage warehouse is high, so the best practice can be to maximize cubic storage. Storage solutions, such as double deep racking, pallet flow racks, allow for storing more products in the same area.

8. Invest in freezer-rated equipment. Purchase vehicles, radio frequency devices, and material handling equipment that are specifically made for a freezer environment. This equipment interacts better with gloves, and the batteries degrade slower in the cold than normal equipment.

9. Try different cycle counting processes. To limit the amount of time spent in the freezer environment, consider enabling a count-back or count-to-zero process for your pickers. A count-back is when pickers count how much product is left in a location after a pick. A count-to-zero prompts pickers to confirm that pick locations are empty when they are depleted.

10. Invest in advanced cold chain monitoring. Onboard temperature monitoring equipment can offer real-time visibility and mitigate the risk of loss due to product temperature. Advanced data gathering across the supply chain can ensure product safety and optimize the supply chain network.

IMPACT OF COVID 19 IN GERIATRIC CARE

IMPACT OF COVID 19 IN GERIATRIC CARE

“You can’t help getting older but you don’t have to get old” – George Burns

Around the world the rate of death occurred due to COVID 19 is high in case of senior community. It is said that reduction of immunity in the senior age people has become an entrant for the virus to create worse health effects for old age senior citizens community.

India has nearly 110 million of Senior citizens who were looked after either in joint families or in care centers. They are the vulnerable population to get easily into various health issues. About 75% of senior care has the incidence of non – communicable diseases which is a risk factor for the new infections to spread on to the community.

Even before Covid it was tiresome to look after the elderly people as their dear and nears will be away to search their own future. Without help of a care taker it will be difficult to assist the elderly patients. Now after Covid the situation has become worse. The virus has affected disproportionately too many of the elderly people that they couldn’t find way to cope up in their life. Covid has highlighted some of the issues which has become a challenge to the current and future senior citizens:

  1. Less socialization during lock down
  2. Impact of Mental health and self esteem
  3. Lack of Knowledge on online platforms available for elderly people
  4. Helplessness in the crisis situation

Geriatric care is mostly undervalued by the healthcare system. The specialist doctors can advise the senior people on a particular disease or disablement. But holistic health approach is always a question mark for the elderly people. In recent times it has proven that elderly people has affected more mentally than through any microorganism. A separate department called Geriatric care is gaining its importance slowly in the healthcare system. This department gives a holistic health review for the elderly people where they can share their feelings and emotions. A branch of science that deals with the elderly care patients is called as Geriatric care.

It is observed that elderly people who were under professional care centers have been largely safe and healthy in this pandemic period. As that the case the home care demand has grown up high at the expense of hospital based care. This has proven that home care companies can reduce the hospitalization, prevent fall accidents, and can provide immediate emergency care.

It has been said that in later years in India only elderly population will be more and it becomes a mandatory to enhance the elderly care. Many of the hospitals today will be replaced by cheaper, better, tech supported home based care platforms. This will be a best outcome for families, governments and the elderly themselves.

SEO at its BIGGEST!!!!!

SEO at its BIGGEST!!!!!

“SEO Isn’t About Gaming the System Anymore; It’s About Learning How to Play by the Rules.” – Jordan Teicher

Few years back, if you had a website it was upgraded by web crawlers, and it was sufficient. All you required were essential pages to set up an average site structure, catchphrase stuffed page titles, and weighty watchword immersion on the principle navigational pages. Yet, that doesn’t work any longer. With most organizations making locales with all the key SEO components, it’s getting practically difficult to win the best positions in the SERPs by simply having your specialized SEO set up.

Most startups begin their digital marketing efforts with SEO because it is free. They hire someone with knowledge of Google and other search engines, and focus their attention on beating the search engine’s algorithms. This makes eminent sense as the first step to getting visible. Unfortunately, for a lot of startups it becomes the last. Since their entire focus is on beating search engines and their updates, other marketing efforts come in as an afterthought.

Importance of SEO:

While there’s no doubt that SEO is a vital tool for any business operating online, relying on SEO alone for traffic building and for lead generation is not advisable. Tactics like keyword stuffing and hiding buying mass links, directory links, duplicating websites (or categories) on different domains, content spinning, automatic content and optimizing purely for gaming a search engine’s results could be downright risky if SEO becomes the primary traffic generation tactic.

In 2012, when the Penguin update to Google’s Search Algorithm first rolled out, there were many worried webmasters who lost their page one positions overnight, and in extreme cases, saw their business drying up in an instant. Depending on SEO with nothing else to swear by is the notorious demonstration of placing all investments tied up on one place. You shouldn’t base the drawn out accomplishment of your site and the traffic that it creates just on Google, or any of the web indexes besides.

Way to succeed…

To ensure sustainable digital marketing success, any plan must be built on solid foundations that sit on not just one technique but on a wide range of online marketing tools. Organic search traffic is simply a part of a much bigger picture. SEO won’t get you any new searches or traffic after the initial promising period. It’s vital to invest in a wider online marketing in a variety of different ways and stop worrying about what Google may roll out next.

As a must do list of the online marketing mix, a startup should look at tactics in various parts of the marketing funnel including social media advertising, paid search marketing, paid content marketing, display banner advertising, and email marketing. Organic search marketing is only one component of a much bigger online marketing mix.

Find out where else your target audience is hanging out online. These other potential referral sites can be of a great source of traffic

Finally

Online marketing strategy relies on SEO and recalibrate if you are over invested in SEO. Ensure that your online marketing strategy is comprehensive and includes multiple tactics and channels.

Hoping for Better Tomorrow!!!!!!

CORONA , TICK-BORNE AND WHAT MORE?

CORONA ,  TICK-BORNE  AND WHAT MORE?

-Dr.K.THIRUGNANASAMBANTHAN, Asst. Professor, Department of MBA, SANKARA COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND COMMERCE.

This world has seen many deadly diseases like EBOLA, RIFTVALLEY FEVER, MONKEYPOX MARBURG VIRUS DISEASE, LASSA FEVER, MERS-C0V, SARS, NIPAH, ZIKA, CRIMEAN-CONGO HAEMORRHAGIC FEVER, CHICKEN POX, SMALL POX, CHOLERA, DENGUE, CHIKUNGUNYA etc. As of now 31,517,450 people are infected by Corona which has caused more than 970,074 deaths. WHO has warned regarding the second wave of Corona, Most of the countries has lifted the lockdown and the infection rate and death rate has rapidly increased.  WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stressed it was still possible to control the virus, with effort. “The trajectory is in our hands, and it’s everybody’s business, and we should all contribute to stop this pandemic”.

Before we can find a solution for this coronavirus, a new disease has started infecting in Anhui and Zhejiang in CHINA.  This disease is caused by tick-borne virus.  This virus has killed 7 and 60 infected.  It has been found that these virus are spread through ticks.  This virus is also transmitted from humans to humans through blood and mucous. This virus creates Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome.  30% of the infected die which is more alarming since the death ratio is high than that of covid which is only 5 %.  CORONA or TICK is not the end but more to come, we have to stand tall and fight against the viruses.

They say this Yuga is called as Kali Yuga, Experts predict that the end of the Yuga will certainly be followed by dreadful earth changes and civilization falls, as is characteristic of the transitional periods. What more are there to come, let us wait and see.

Captain Cool

Captain Cool

Dr. Priya .K, HOD, SIMS

Our Indian team captain Mahendra singh Dhoni who is called captian cool who stands away from the crowd with his ability, leadership and consistency has set an example of a great Leader with an exceptional quality. A person who has started his career from wicket- keeper to captainship has set an inspiration for many youngsters. Many corporate lessons can be learned from our former captain. Here I have listed certain qualities of MS Dhoni .

Staying cool:

If Dhoni has to described in one word it would be his cool nature even during the crucial game of cricket. He ensured that the situation never got to him, so every leader needs to be calm during stress to guide the ship during storm. Managing stress during high  pressure is the key to success and achieving  the goal.

Adaptability

He is a versatile player and can adapt any situation like wicket keeping, bowling, batting and maintains a check on his emotions even during victory or defeat. Adaptability is the key term for long term success in the corporate world.

Risk Taking

Good leaders take risk during tough times just like Dhoni who did a tricky chase in the finals of 2011 ODI World cup. Here it showcases what great leaders do, as he took a risk and lead the team to glory.

Trust your Team

Leaders trust their team members to enable them to reach the heights. A fantastic example we can remember when joginder singh was asked to bowl during the final over of T20 world cup this trust among the team members India to won the match.

Focus on Task

Dhoni has immense ability to stay focus on the game. In the corporate world managers need to stay positive and avoid any sort of interruption and negative energies at our work place.

Managing failures

After 2011 world cup there was a down fall for Indian cricket team, Dhoni did a bounce back and answered all the critics. At work place failure has to be dealt with the same thing as success and we need to be focus on the job.

In short Dhoni story is about an ordinary man doing extraordinary things and a role model for all leaders. A leader with a great passion and spirit, As MS Dhoni announced his retirement from the Indian cricket team. It was really shocking for all fan as, we will be surely missing watching Mahendra Singh Dhoni leading  the national cricket team to yet another victory.

NEGOTIABLE INSTRUMENT – CHEQUE

NEGOTIABLE INSTRUMENT – CHEQUE

S. Thilak, Assistant Professor, SIMS

A Cheque is a bill of exchange drawn on a specific banker and not expressed to be payable otherwise on demand. The drawer is the account holder signing the cheque, drawer is always the bank and the payee is the beneficiary who will receive the amount mentioned in the cheque.

Written Format: A cheque should be in writing by ink pen or ball point pen, or typed, but not in pencil as the writing can be easily erased or altered. It can also be written by another person apart from the drawee.

Forms of Cheque:  As per RBI guidelines, all the banks have been advised to issue only CTS 2010 standard multicity/payable at par cheques to their bank account holders. Void Pantograph is embossed on left hand side of the cheque leaf, standardized date format. Bank/Branch address along with IFSC code printed on the top of the cheque. An account holder can use only these printed cheques for transactions and cheque book is to be kept in safe custody by the account holder.

Drawer’s Signature: The cheque has to be signed in ink by the account holder or his authorized agent as per the specimen signature available on record with the bank branch. If the signature differs materially, the cheque may be returned by the banker, to protect the customer’s interest from possible forgery. Printed signatures on dividend/interest warrants cheques that are issued by companies in bulk, are also acceptable.

Due of Cheque: A cheque has to be dated, as the date constitutes a material element of a cheque. A holder of an undated cheque may fill in the date while presenting it for payment. A post-dated cheque cannot be paid before its due date. An ante-dated cheque is payable within three months from the date specified on the cheque. As per Indian banking practices, a cheque presented after expiry of 3 months from its written date, cannot be paid unless it is revalidated by the drawer under his signature.

Alteration in the Cheques:  With the introduction of Cheque Truncation System, cheque will be returned if any alteration is made in cheque. No changes/corrections should be carried out on the cheques in the payee’s name, courtesy amount or legal amount etc., excepting change in the date for validation period, and such alteration if any should be under full signature of the drawer of the cheque. Since other than date no alterations will be permitted, fresh cheque forms should be used by customers. The prescription on prohibiting alterations/corrections on cheques has been introduced to curtail cheque related frauds.

OTHER FEATURES OF NEGOTIABLE INSTRUMENTS

There are certain features which are common to promissory notes, bills of exchange and cheques and the common features of negotiable instrument are as follows.

1. Instrument has to be in writing.

2. The instrument must contain on unconditional promise or undertaking.

3. The promise must relate to paying a certain sum of money, and not anything else. In terms of the provisions of law, the sum payable is deemed to be certain if it (a) includes future interest, (b) is payable at an indicated rate of exchange, or if (c) the instrument provides that on default of payment of an instalment, the balance unpaid shall become due.

4. The date of payment must be certain; the instrument should be payable either on demand or presentment or on a fixed or determinable future date.

5. The payee must be certain person either singly or jointly with other certain person, as per the instrument itself.

6. The instrument must bear the signature of the drawer or promisor.

7. The instrument must be delivered to the person for whom it is meant, after having been drawn and signed by the drawer/promisor. Delivery may be actual or constructive. The creation, acceptance and endorsement of a negotiable instrument get completed only after delivery.

8. Stamping of the instrument is as per the Indian Stamp Act 1899. An unstamped document cannot be the basis of a suit in a court of Law as it cannot be accepted in evidence.

HR Challenges, Opportunities and Actions after Covid-19: 3 HR Interventions

HR Challenges, Opportunities and Actions after Covid-19: 3 HR Interventions

Dr.S.Sundararajan, Associate Professor , SIMS

1. Health first:

As the government rules are stringent, HR managers has to be serious . Any kind of odd incidence if happens in organisation, the organisation has to suffer. Hence HR managers need to take care to put employee health on priority. Organisation needs to have stringent norms and HR has to take every precaution to administer and see to it that they are followed. Any non-compliance in this regards should be highlighted.

HR managers need to encourage employees for maintaining healthy lifestyle like yoga and exercise to maintain consistency. A scheme can be put to award the family who does exercise regularly. This will help to keep the efficiency up and reduce the negativity which may come in the organisation.

When I say health, it’s not just physical. It’s mental, emotional and financial too. HR need to play a major role and guide employee time to time about all these things. If any family member of employee in future suffers from Corona, it should be intimated to HR on priority. This can avoid any panic situation in office. So it’s not just employee, his family health matters. Only small hope of survival  can do  wonders.

2. Communicate the reality:

It is observed that the higher authorities usually communicate many things to employees. One needs to differentiate between thoughts and reality. When the task is supported or can be supported with evidence it is termed as reality, rest are thoughts. It is better to communicate reality to employee as this sets ground for employees to plan themselves for the situation.  Specific and real picture can only help employee to get involved and contribute his best Employees who will be aware of reality and will manage his finances, his needs and his expectations. If the organisation is in trouble, employee will take precautionary measures. This all is based on the employee engagement. Reality is not right or wrong, it’s what is seen.

3. Growth is not enough:

Organisation leaders are worried and trying to find out the ways to bring their businesses on track. Usually when any such kind of epidemic situation comes, the businesses re-bounce and grows drastically. Here, one needs to remember, financial growth may be seen and observed on various front, but it is not enough. One must have strong mind-set to come out of this situation and grow. Business need paradigm shift. Just thinking in the same way will not be enough. Here HR can add very high value to the organisation. HR needs to put this mind-set in employee and appeal for innovative ideas in business which can help organisation to re-bounce and take driving seat in the economy. HR needs to expect more.

FUTURE LOGISTICS WITH CHANGING TECHNOLOGY

FUTURE LOGISTICS WITH CHANGING TECHNOLOGY

Dr.D.Sathishkumar, Asst. Professor, SIMS

The evolution of technology is pushing the boundaries and changing how the world does the business. Now-a-days people are customised to everything to buy  online and right at the door step with immediate access. Improved technology has also increased productivity in the supply chain, minimizing cost and errors. These advances benefit all areas of the logistics industry namely, Shipment tracking systems, international transportation, Supply chain management and IOT.

Shipment Tracking Systems

In the past customers book shipments, receive an estimated delivery date and then were left in the dark, unless they decided to make a phone call. Today internet and software advances allow customers access to shipping and tracking systems in to 24/7. This system saves time and money for the company as well. A Shipment Tracking System tailored for the customers that allows  them to monitor and manage their shipments. It features shipment notifications and messages customizable reporting and customer accounts with information specific to the cargo destined to them.

IoT and RFID

Internet of Things (IoT) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), are the technologies which rules the world. IoT is opening up many opportunities for the supply chain, such as reducing cost and delays by avoiding risks. Sensors are built in to cabs, cargo ships, trains, etc., and connect to an alarm system or dispatcher that is monitoring and tracking. These sensors process and transmit the information to the crew which gains insight in to hidden risk and knowledge.

RFID technology has also been use for a few years is a popular labour saving way companies can track their inventory. A tag or sensor is placed on the product and radio waves are sent out. The data is then received and processed by the company. RFID tags are Barcodes, but the superior speed of the information delivery and data processing of RFID is more appealing to businesses and the way technology is moving. Majority of the companies uses RFID tags for their products to monitor their warehouses.

Autonomous Trucks and Drones

It wasn’t completely driverless, with a driver in the passenger seat to monitor the computer; it is a huge step in this breakthrough technology and has the potential to increase efficiency in the delivery process.

Future packages delivered right to door step technology by drones. Drones delivers are still few years out due to regulatory measures and associated costs, but the through of not having to sit around during a four hour time span waiting for a package is pretty appealing.

Enhances GPS Accuracy

GPS accuracy of these devices has drastically increased throughout the years, not only helping frustrated, lost drivers but also improving the supply chain. The advanced accuracy of GPS allows for increased productivity and satisfied customers, by tracking trucks locations and improving hauls through access to updated traffic data.

MEDICAL CODING

MEDICAL CODING

Ms. V. Vidhya

Asst Professor

Department of MBA – SIMS

Sankara College of Science and Commerce

Medical coding is an emerging field in the Healthcare sector. It is the process of transforming health diagnosis, treatment, procedures and medical services into alphanumeric codes. In simple words it is the translating important medical information’s into meaningful codes for the purpose of medical records documentation and for proper medical billing. The medical coding has the fast pace development in foreign countries rather than in India. There the medical records of the individual are maintained so as to get the full health information as and when required by the physician. It is said that one’s personal health information follows them by subsequent complaints and treatments and it should be easily understood for the future references.

The coding is done by using the different types of codes like ICD – 10 CM, CPT, ICD – 10 PCS, HCPCS LEVEL II, CDT, NDC. The coding is done by specialist medical coders who will be certified by the medical coding institutions. It is the responsibility of the medical coders to transform the physicians report to useful medical codes. After the medical officer treats the patient it is the responsibility of the insurance company to pay the bill for the treatment. To enable the insurance company to pay the bills it needs to understand what has been done to the particular patient. The medical coder converts the medical reports in coding and gives the information in a useful and efficient way.

India has become huge hub for BPO companies for medical coding, medical claims, medical billing and medical transcription services. This in turn improves the efficiency of healthcare providers and insurance providers for other countries.

The skills required to the medical coder are attention to detail, technical skills and analytical skills. The coder should  read the medical reports thoroughly and then should assign the code hence if wrongly assigned it will create problems to both, patients and doctors.

The demand for the medical coders is increasing day by day in India. With the growth of insurance sector in India it is predicted that in upcoming years our healthcare industry might be based on the insurance and we might also do medical coding in various areas of healthcare.  There is a tremendous career growth in the medical coding streams. We have separate medical coding certificates for  doing coding and one has to get certificate to join in the medical coding stream. The life science students can opt for medical coding and can pursue their career in coding as they will have basic knowledge in physiology and anatomy.

To conclude, in this fast-growing world if one individual wants to sustain in the growing pace he/she need to upgrade his knowledge with the growing world. Medical coding is yet another excellent career option for those who are interested in healthcare and life sciences. The need for the medical coders will rise with the increasing quality of healthcare services. The scope for medical coding is increasing exponentially in India in the recent times.
