STOCK INVESTMENTS AND INVESTMENT PSYCHOLOGY

STOCK INVESTMENTS AND INVESTMENT PSYCHOLOGY

Prof. S. Thilak, Assistant Professor, SIMS

Importance of Investment:

Financial Freedom means that a person needs to have enough Money in his bank account, so that the person need not work for the money. So, what stops the Financial freedom is, first the corporate hierarchy. During the entry level people have lots of opportunities but after years pass on and they get experience they get lesser and lesser level of opportunities. For e.g., We take a team of ten peoples working in a corporate working together after five years three will be promoted as the Team lead, then the rest of them will work in same position. And after five years out of three only one will be promoted as Manager, what will happen to the rest two employees. So, as we see that in every level the no. of vacancy or position is smaller and smaller there is always risk. A statistic says 86% of people lose their job as their experience grows in corporate hierarchy. Even if the person losses their job they can live happily and sophistically by financial freedom i.e., by Investing. Investment will help the person to be financially Secure in future.

A Better Investment Options

Savings Account:  In India we can deposit our savings through Bank as Savings Account or fixed deposit or recurring deposits. The bank which the concern person has deposited their money is ready to give 5% of Interest rate and Return is Guarantee. But if we have the Inflation the rate is 7%, we cannot have a secured future.

Real Estates: it is an investment which we can be done and the returns is also higher than the Inflation rate. The problem is that we need a big ticket of investment and it is not liquidity. The person will be having the high rate of return but it is not Guaranteed and we need more money to Invest.

Stocks: If a person Invest in stocks with the good knowledge, they can take a return up to 25%. if the Inflation rate is 7%, with value of the 25% return the future of the person Investing in Stocks are more secured. More over this does not need big tickets investment and it is highly liquidity.

Investment Psychology

  • Have Right Expectation: The person whomsoever has Invested in the Stock-market should have the right expectation they should not be greedy.
  • Never go for Free Advisory Services: Most of them will do is Pump and Dump schemes and this happens mostly in small liquid stocks often microcaps. Never get tempted by friends/colleagues. They never tell the about the failures but only success ones.
  • Never go for Paid Services: unless they are really good at it.
  • Never fall in Broker’s Trap: they will always give small time frame calls and they will not give long term calls because of the Brokerage.
  • Avoid Analyst: They will ask to invest in bull market and stay away in bear market it is totally wrong strategy.
  • Don’t skip the learning phase: Tips can help you get profit for 1st, 2nd or even 3rd time but not for the next time. So, don’t skip the learning phases and always try to find a new way to grow the money.
  • Research before Investing: Do lots of calculation before investing into share there are lots of sectors are available and lots of companies are also available. So, there are lot of opportunities are available but doing research will help the person to earn more.
  • Don’t be scared of mistakes: While investing in stock there will be many mis-calculation will happen. So, the person should not be scared of doing mistakes and importantly hey have to admit their mistakes and they have to find way to rectify it. Don’t take your ego, just let it go this the mantra to rectify the mistakes.
  • Take advice only from the people who have expertise in the stock investments.
  • Never Invest borrowed money as no one can predict the rise and fall of the share value. If a person is investing in stock market with the borrowed money, they have high chance of taking risk and unfortunately in bear phases they will get frustrated to see losses.
  • Trading is to create capital and Investment is to make wealth. There is an upper limit and lower limit to trading capital.
  • Buy Businesses, not stocks. If the person is interested in buying and selling the stocks based on the share value but not by the company value this will not help for a longer period try to find out the company value, target customers and the growth rate.
  • Invest in industry that helps in understanding the business better.
  • Don’t stress too much on diversification.
  • Expect Volatility.
  • Never try timing the Market.
  • Never let your emotions rule.
  • Develop a plan action.

Dr.S.SUNDARARAJAN
Associate Professor-SIMS

Introduction

In the current VUCA world, Leadership plays a significant role to adapt to the changes and challenges posed by the dynamic market environment. The entire world is embracing immense and unprecedented changes in the technology business management and every sphere of life. This article discusses about Future Leadership Skills to survive, lead, and create the future and also about to lead successfully in VUCA world. India is one of the Top 10 largest economies of the world in the recent times and continues to grow to Top 5 largest economies of the world. In this context of gaining International recognition and becoming economic superpower, the business organizations need innovative Leadership with more effectiveness. In this context, Leadership is very crucial to motivate employees and to perform by meeting the market requirements.

VUCA:

VUCA is a short form that come out from the military in the 1990s. It explain the “fog of war”-the disorganized conditions that are met on a modern battlefield. Its importance to leaders in business is clear, as these situations are highly expressive to the environment in which business is conducted day by day. Managerial Leader as usual, including creating visualization, is not sufficient in a VUCA world. The short form ‘VUCA’ stands for volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous.

Volatile:  The tools changes randomly, suddenly, tremendously, particularly for the poorer.

Uncertain: Significant information is ot specific, unsure, vague about the current situation and prospect outcomes, not able to be relied upon.

Complex: A lot of unlike and associated parts: many key decision features, communication between different agents, appearance, adjustment, co-evolution, pathetic signals.

Ambiguous: Rlease to more than one explanation; the importance of an occasion can be understood in different ways.

10 Leadership skills require in an uncertain world:

  1. Maker instinct. – Ability to develop their inner drive to make and grow things, as well as attach with others in the production.
  2. Clarity. – Ability to observe through disorder and disagreement to a prospect that others cannot notice yet.
  3. Dilemma flipping. – Ability to turn quandary into reward and prospect.
  4. Immersive learning ability. – Ability to submerge oneself in unknown environments and to learn from them in a new way.
  5. Bio-empathy. – Ability to see things from other’s point of view – to realize and find out from other’s patterns.
  6. Constructive depolarizing. – Ability to carry people from different cultures toward supportive commitment.
  7. Quiet transparency. – Ability to be reliable on important affairs without being over self-promoting.
  8. Rapid prototyping. – Ability to make fast and quick innovations, with the anticipation that later on achievement will require early collapse.
  9. Smart mob organizing. – Ability to make, employ with and care for purposeful business by smart use of electronic or other media.
  10. Commons creating. – Ability to start, foster and develop shared resources that can help other players.

Endnote:

The business organisations want to become successful, they will need their leaders and functional managers to deliberately make an effort to adopt an intelligence approach to discover  Emotional Quotient Skills. If they aren’t actively working for improving Emotional quotient competencies their workforce, functional leaders will find more difficulty to get anything done and achieved.

Covid 19 and its Impact on Global Environment

Covid 19 and its Impact on Global Environment

ThirugnanaSambanthan, Asst.Professor, Department of MBA, Sankara College of Science and Commerce.

The world is in a panic situation due to the pandemic Covid-19 virus infection. More than 3,592,547 people have been infected as of now and 249,081 have died because of this dangerous virus.  This article is about how this pandemic made impact on Global Environment.  Ants have been in the earth for more than 120 million years, but it did not change or pollute the environment.  Out of all the living beings on earth Human are the one who started changing the environment for the past 700 years.

Global warming was threatening the whole world.  The poles started melting, the sea level started raising due to this, still now there is a threat that London and many countries which are nearby sea may be flooded by sea  and the land may disappear in few years.

Air pollution (PM2.5, ozone, and household air pollution) is the fifth leading risk factor for mortality worldwide.  Almost one  fifth deaths occur worldwide  due to air pollution. The air quality index in Delhi is usually 200 ( the normal level is 25).  The world health organization claims anything above 25 is dangerous to health.  Last year the Air Quality Index raised to 900 and on all days it was more than 25.  The Delhi Government took several steps like Odd – Even rule to contain this air pollution and to bring the air quality index below 25.  But all the efforts went in vain.  But now after lockdown the air pollution is 20.  Not only in Delhi, have major cities in the world seen decline in air pollution due to lockdown.

More than 70 Billion rupees has been spent to clean ganges river, even National Green Tribunal has expressed dissatisfaction because the efforts of cleaning ganges failed for the past several years.  The health of ganges river has improved drastically due to lockdown, there is a reduction in dumping of industrial waste in ganges and Central Pollution. The Board has found that now ganges is suitable for bathing and propagation of fisheries and wildlife.

People were able to see Himalayas from Jalandar city at Punjab which is about 213km away from it.  This vision is seen after 25 years.  From Uttarpradesh Saharanpur which is 636km away from Himalayas is able to see it after 30 years.  It is unbelievable to see that how much humans have polluted the global environment.

Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdown has helped us to know about the clean environment, more than this silver lining of clean atmosphere during this lockdown, people, government and industrialists should take efforts to control pollution after lockdown.  This world does not belong to humans alone; it is for the millions of species in the world.  If we don’t follow rules nature will react against us.

IMPACT OF COMMUNICATION ON HEALTHCARE

IMPACT OF COMMUNICATION ON HEALTHCARE

Ms. V. Vidhya, Assistant Professor, Department of MBA ,Sankara College of Science and Commerce

Healthcare Research has shown no matter however knowledge does the Clinician or Healthcare provider have, if he / she does not communicate in the right manner to the public it may not help them!

INTRODUCTION

As rightly said the Communication is one of the main components in the healthcare delivery. For e.g., if a Clinic diagnoses a patient and want him / her to take the treatment it is his duty to rightly communicate the problem with the patient and convince him/her for the right treatment. Research studies have shown a strong relationship between the communication of healthcare providers and patients’ capacity to recover, self-manage the chronic conditions and to change their health behaviours. Communication in general terms means passing information and making them  aware of what you want to communicate. It is not just passing information, the information what we need to communicate should be in an understandable way. This article explains how the communication of healthcare providers takes a major role in wellness of the patients.

IMPACT OF COMMUNICATION

Let’s trace the patient communication with the hospital. If the he / she is the outpatient he /she encounter various outlets in the hospital like, Reception, Registration, specific department Outpatient registration, Investigation registration and billing, Clinicians, Nursing assistant, Junior doctors, Pharmacy reception and billing.  Here in this list it is mandatory that if one communication becomes disturbed the patient gets annoyed and his trust towards the hospital will become negative. If we take In-patients the communication towards the healthcare providers will be much higher than the outpatient. In this instance it becomes necessary that communication for the patient should be provided in a proper manner. As we can see if the hospital systems do not work properly the patients have to lose their way and will run from pillar to post. One side it is necessary that Doctors, nurses, and other clinical personnel’s communication towards the patient should be in right way but on the other hand communication among other healthcare teams also plays an important role. For e.g. If a pharmacist do not communicate properly about dispensing medicines to the patients in proper way the patients cannot understand and it is possible that they might miss a dose and can create health problems to them.

The Medical council of India has introduced a module in the curriculum with AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics and Communication Module) for the healthcare professionals. This module helps to prepare medical graduates for the role of clinician, communicator, lifelong learner and professional.

A study on Healthcare communication has established the following impacts on patients and Healthcare community,

  1. Effective Communication with the patients while taking diagnosis history by the Clinicians will provide them diagnostic accuracy, which in turn helps them to provide proper treatment.
  2. Not all the patients will adhere to the Clinicians advices. It’s the way how we communicate them to adhere the advices given to them to lead a healthy life.
  3. Patient satisfaction will get improved if the Healthcare community understand their problems and communicate them in proper manner.
  4. It is been studied that inefficient communication among Healthcare community has led to number of medical errors. Proper communication within the healthcare team will solve the problems due to medical errors which in turn implies the patient safety.
  5. Communication within the healthcare team influences the quality of work, Job satisfaction, decrease the employee turnover and in turn increases the employee satisfaction level.
  6. Malpractice claims are root cause for the improper communication of Clinicians with the patients. Study reports on malpractices claims conclude that the problem has occurred due to improper communication between clinicians and the patients.

Conclusion

Research evidence shows that proper communication between healthcare team members and patients will increase the positive relationships, patients’ expectations over the hospital or healthcare provider, job satisfaction of the working healthcare team and self-manage of chronic medical condition of patients. The magic with the Doctors treatment lies on the number of conversations with the patients. This implies the basic concept to communication which is to listen first than to react. So, we can equalise better communication with better outcome.

“WFH TRENDING”

“WFH TRENDING”

Ms.K.SINDHUJA,  ASST. PROFESSOR,SIMS

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.ARISTOTLE

WFH ( Work From Home) content is the most humorous in the lock down’s clutter panic content.

Before QUARANTINE.
Looking around for a while, the clock beeps @5.00 am in the morning and there starts our routine work.

Suddenly, I came to a Novel disease called “CORONA” which rescheduled all our habits.
DAY-1 of the lockdown was quite interesting to come out of the routine and enjoy the day.

DAYS PASSED……HABITS FOLLOWED
Though lockdown created a new ambiance to stay at home only with family. But WORK? MONEY?
Here comes “WFH”.
Covid-19 lockdown is been dragging for longer days it creates many insights and implications out of that. Initially, WFH was a critical task. Later by all the virtual teaching models.WFH itself became more interesting than before.

According to the current survey by GIPSI.
A surge in “ONLINE SEARCHES & INTERESTS”
• 40% increase in Whats app usage
• 31% Increase in interest for Online Meetings on Google Trends
• 4% Increase in searches related to online banking
• 32% Increase in Online Grocery

Implications:
• The forced learning has created a newly created module to “WORK FROM HOME”.
• Coming to the major part of WFH is Social Distancing, which is the major issue to be noticed during this pandemic period.
• Random hangout meeting that is the heavenly feeling during WFH.

WFH Impacts according to the latest survey:

• 78% Jump in WFH searches from March
• Interest in Online meeting apps searches during the lockdown
• Conversation increased around online meeting apps
Though WFH can make life easier at the beginning, it can actually be determined by the employee’s mental health.

Changing Hiring Patterns during Covid -19

Changing Hiring Patterns during Covid -19

Dr. Priya Kalyanasundaram , HOD, SIMS

The present condition today shows a slowdown in the economy due to the novel covid -19 virus that has spread all over the world .It has disrupted the business , revenue and fallen down the consumers demand, stock markets started sinking and the most affected industries are travel and tourism and their related sectors.

Even though there are certain companies who will be  cost cutting labour but there are some organizations which is looking for hiring plans such as Hospitals, Ecommerce, logistics and e-services companies they are in huge demand of manpower. As nowadays people are looking for online shopping for social distancing.

Though there is a downfall in the market due to this pandemic there is going to be a biggest changes in the hiring process instead of on the table meetings, job interviews will be conducted through video conferencing like Skype and zoom or by phone. Many companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft etc were following this pattern of interview process. On boarding is also another area of recruitment which has gone virtual like animal explainer videos, interactive webinars and podcasts etc..

The following are the guidelines for video interviewing

  • Be Professional
  • Time Zone is essential
  • Be prepared for presentation

Many corporate have planned for a future oriented hiring that will be widely different from today’s scenario .This move will benefit both the candidates as well as the recruiter .Millennial are more tech savvy and they usually won’t apply for jobs in companies which have outdated recruitment methods .So organizations looking for talent they need to be technically strong. video interviewing can be the best optimal methods for hirers

Left Wing and Right wing Politics

Left Wing and Right wing Politics

Dr. S D. Sathish Kumar, Asst.Professor, SIMS

The Left wing and Right wing politics appeared during the French Revolution of 1789, the members of National assembly is divided in to supporters of the king to the Presidents right and they are supporters of the revolution to the left. Members will follow conservatism i.e. committed to traditional values and ideas with an opposition to change.

Political Philosophy

The Left wing follows Liberal- Prefer more regulation and services to the people like free universal health care to be provided by the government to all the citizens of the country.

The Right wing follows Conservative- Prefer smaller government, less regulation, most services are provided to the private sector in a free market and an accurate analysis of the establishment.

Health Care Policy

The left wing believes that access to healthcare is one of the fundamental rights of all the citizens. The right wing oppose government provided universal healthcare.

 Education Policy

The left wing favour expanded free and public education, The right wing believe choice of the parents who want to home school their kids or send them to private school should be able to get vouchers for opting out of the  public school system.

Gay Right

The left wing supports gay marriage, support anti-discrimination laws to protest LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) against work place discrimination.

The Right wing oppose gay marriage, oppose anti- discrimination because they believe it create conflict between people towards religious beliefs and restrict freedom of religion.

Gun Right

The Left wing are in favour of Gun control laws like background checks or waiting period to buy a gun, banning automatic weapons, disallowing concealed weapons.

The Right wing- Strongly oppose to gun control laws.

Environmental Policy

The left wings are generally traditionalist, preferring to ban economic activity that may create jobs but could potentially harm the environment.

The Right wings are usually more tolerant considering economic impact of environment regulation. Believe in free market will find its own solution to environmental problems.

The left wings are always associated with Democratic Party, green, socialist and political parties. The right wing is associated with republic party, constitutional party. The core beliefs of the left wing are minority rights, economic equality, gun control, environmental protection, expanded education opportunity, social nets who need them. But the right wings core beliefs are limited to government at national level, local government should have most control over decisions affecting local population individual freedom and personal property rights.

The mission of the regulator is to protect the investors, maintain the fair, orderly, and efficient market, and facilitate capital formation.  Indian Traditional Culture- A weapon against Corona Virus

Indian Traditional Culture- A weapon against Corona Virus

-Dr.K.Thirugnana Sambanthan, Asst. Professor, SIMS

World is totally in a chaos state because of Corona Covid-19 Virus attack.  More than 3,029,323 people are infected.  It has caused more than 209,227 deaths  which is approximately 19% of the closed cases.  God knows what will happen in the forth coming days USA, France, Italy, Germany, France, China, Turkey, Iran have more than 1 Lakh people infected with this deadly virus.  Developed countries are finding it difficult to eradicate this virus.  Many countries who have good infrastructure and medical equipments are struggling to deal with this virus as it spreading in a very fast rate.  Many  countries have stopped treating people who are aged above 50 and have been infected by this virus since  they don’t have sufficient medical  equipments.  On the other hand India under the guidance of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi was able to control the virus attack.  Till now the ratio of  death in india is only 0.6 per 1million population and infected ratio is only 20 per 1 Million Population.  This pandemic attack is under control in India.  The 144 declared for 40 days have kept things in control.

Now we can be proud of certain customs or tradition we have been following in India for several years.  Although western culture has largely influenced the present generation, this Covid-19 Virus Attack has shown them the brilliance of Indian Culture and Tradition.  We can list one by one

  1. Namaskaram:

Due to the influence of western culture people have started handshaking rather than greeting others by Namskaram.  After Covid -19 doctors have advised not to do handshakes as it will spread virus from the infected to others.  Besides this there are more spiritual benefits while doing namaskaram.  The word ‘Namaskar’ is derived from the root ‘namaha’, which means paying obeisance (Namaskar) or salutation.

  1. Wearing Shoes at all places.

As per Indian tradition one will not wear shoes inside house and other places of sanctity.  But in western culture shoes are worn at all times.  Now it is found that this Covid  spreads if an infected person spits and if we step on it with shoes and move at home with the same shoe it will start infecting people.

  1. Quarantine during death

As per Indian tradition the entire family will be quarantined for 16 days if any death has occurred in their house.  Western people yelled at it saying it is a waste of time and energy.  But Covid-19 teaches us the need for Quarantine since virus due to death can infect others too.

  1. Traditional drugs

During Dengue, Chicken Guinea, and other virus infection we had our traditional medicines like Nilavembu kudineer which effectively helped in containing the infection.  Now for this covid we have kapasurakudineer and Nilavembu Kudineer which fight against the virus and give immune to our system.  Due to this traditional medicine we were able to cure the people effectively in a short span of time.  Moreover these traditional medicines help us as shield against this pandemic virus attack.

Other than these things above there are n-number of good things in our culture which don’t understand because we feel it is not westernized.  Finally this covid-19 pandemic virus attack has helped the present generation to follow our culture willingly or unwillingly, now many have started knowing the benefits of our culture and tradition.

STAY HOME! STAY SAFE!

Impact of COVID 19 on the Education Sector

Impact of COVID 19 on the Education Sector

Dr.S.SUNDARARAJAN, Associate Professor, SIMS

COVID-19 has also affected the education sector like any other sector as lock down is mandatory even for schools and colleges. We have turned to so called on-line education, postponement of exams, finding ways to avoid loss of term, declaring lock down period as vacation, fees collection to be postponed, etc. In comparison with other sectors like industry, banks, e-commerce, transport, etc., issues or impact on education sector are manageable, not much interdependent with other sectors.

The following are the major impact on the education sector

  1. There would be a big jump in the need for skill based education.
  2. Online, simulation based, management game based education, linking theory to practice and vice versa would be a big priority.
  3. The demand for On line education will increase to a large
  4. Fly by night online education providers will increase dramatically at least in the short run.
  5. Clamour for online examinations will rise, Initially this will be around 30% and gradually stabilize to 50% .
  6. The statutory bodies will be forced to relax on the infrastructure needs like number of classrooms, library books, faculties etc. Infact qualifications of faculties will be replaced by industry experts.
  7. Large number of industry personnel especially middle and junior senior personnel will now be available to train students at least till 2023 and 2024.
  8. Syllabus, course content will get revised and new programs like crisis management, disaster management, health attack managements (today it is corona virus tomorrow it could be something else) etc. will be developed and can be offered as electives.
  9. Faculties will need to keep themselves abreast of newer knowledge, newer methods of teaching, industry trends etc. Perhaps faculties will have to prepare videos, YouTube and put greater emphasis on learning management systems etc.
  10. In the short run placements / joining dates for fresh students would be delayed and consequently students would have to develop competitive skills to get placements.
  11. Innovations, R&D will get a big impetus. Health, Biotech, Pharma will see an increase in admissions.

COVID-19 has left certain lessons on education sector:

  1. Schools closed for 2-3 months have limited the impact on education outcome.
  2. On-line is the high- way for future learning.
  3. Since we follow blindly Macaulay or Western model of education, we need to switch over to appropriate education model, to be executed with spirit.
  4. We are going to overcome the issue of lock down on education sector by simple short cuts, I fear, after lock down we will continue in line with the older teaching practice methods.
